WHAT MAKES AN ICON?

ICONIC IS FOR YOU TO DEFINE

What makes an icon? We asked the people who wear the Antarctique: collectors, clients, friends of the Maison.

No two of them answered the same way. These are the details they kept coming back to.

THE BRACELET

'THIS IS THE SIGNATURE CZAPEK'

Look closely at the bracelet and you will find a letter. Brushed steel links meet polished links shaped like a stylised C, a quiet signature that runs all the way around the wrist. The links move freely, the lugs angle downwards, and a micro-adjustment in the clasp gives you a few extra millimetres in an instant. Which is why so many owners end up saying the same thing: “You don’t realise it’s there, because it’s so comfortable.”

EASY RELEASE

'IT'S VERY EASY TO CHANGE STRAPS'

The Antarctique comes with a second strap, in rubber or calfskin. Czapek’s Easy Release system lets you swap the steel bracelet for it in about a minute. The rubber strap carries the same trapezoidal motif as the Stairway to Eternity dial, so the watch keeps its character while changing its mood. How and when it changes is up to you.

THE MOVEMENT

'IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MOVEMENT'

Turn the watch over. The SXH5 is the first calibre Czapek conceived in-house, starting from a blank page. Its architecture looks back to nineteenth-century pocket watches: an off-centre micro-rotor in recycled platinum leaves the gear train in full view, beneath seven skeletonised bridges worked as finely as lace. A free-sprung balance keeps the rhythm, and a single barrel holds more than 60 hours of power reserve.

THE FINISHING

'THE FINISHING IS TOP NOTCH'

The longer you live with an Antarctique, the more you notice. Radial brushing across the top of the case. Grooved flanks, with crown protectors that seem to grow out of them. A flinqué dial that catches the light differently with every turn of the wrist. Inside the SXH5, six inward angles are chamfered by hand, a task no machine can take over, and one you only really see under a loupe.

THE COLLECTION

'THERE'S BASICALLY ONE ANTARCTIQUE FOR EVERY COLLECTOR'

Since 2020, the Antarctique has been a canvas. The original 40.5 mm case was joined in 2022 by the 38.5 mm Antarctique S. There is steel, titanium and rose gold; dials in osmium, meteorite and aventurine; and, further along, the Rattrapante, the skeletonised Révélation and the Tourbillon. Each one wears differently. All of them you recognise from across a room.
